Actor Karthi's much-anticipated spy thriller 'Sardar 2', directed by P S Mithran, has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), clearing the film for a worldwide theatrical release on September 10. Production house Prince Pictures confirmed the certification via social media, posting: 'Stillness before the Storm. #Sardar2 certified with U/A.'
Building on the success of its prequel 'Sardar' — which tackled the commercialization of water and emerged a major blockbuster — 'Sardar 2' shifts its social lens to issues of health and hygiene, with the spy narrative reportedly centered on the dangers of plastic water bottles. Director Mithran has maintained his signature of embedding sharp social commentary within mainstream commercial cinema.

Sponsorship mission accomplished.
Speaking at the film's audio and trailer launch, Karthi issued a pointed message to audiences: 'You might have continued the practice of drinking water from plastic water bottles, but after watching this film, you won't be able to ignore the point it looks to make. That is because we've spoken about a truth that pertains to your health and that issue is bound to leave you shaken.' He added that director Mithran's efforts were 'very sincere' and expressed hope that the film would reach the widest possible audience.
Filming Milestones and Global Locations
The unit completed 100 days of shooting in April 2024 and wrapped principal photography in Bangkok in June 2025. Actress Malavika Mohanan, who is part of the cast, had disclosed the June wrap-up timeline during a fan interaction on her Instagram stories. The story, according to director Mithran, initially travels to Cambodia before shifting to China — a globe-trotting scope that marks a larger canvas than the original.
